Village cooperatives to soft launch operations in October: Minister

Jakarta (ANTARA) - Cooperatives Minister Ferry Juliantono said the soft launch for the operations of the Red and White Village Cooperatives will begin in October 2026.

Speaking at the 2nd National Conference on Smallholder Plantations in Jakarta on Monday, Ferry stated that the cooperatives' operations can commence once the Presidential Regulation on Red and White Village Cooperatives Operational Governance is signed by President Prabowo Subianto.

However, he did not specify how many village cooperatives will be included in the soft launch.

Beyond regulations, operational preparations also involve manager placements. The minister noted that recruited managers who completed training have received their appointment letters, which outline their salaries and allowances.

Trained managers will be deployed to village cooperatives whose warehouses and outlets are fully built and equipped.

According to the minister, the facilities of around 23,000 Red and White Village Cooperatives across the country have been completed.

Of that number, roughly 17,000 are undergoing verification and validation before being handed over to villages for operation.

Ferry previously stated that 17,288 Red and White Village Cooperatives with completed physical facilities are targeted to begin operations by late September or early October 2026.

During a working meeting with Commission VI of the House of Representatives in Jakarta on Thursday (September 17), Ferry noted that according to PT Agrinas Pangan Nusantara data submitted to the Ministry of Cooperatives, the 17,288 cooperatives already have complete warehouses, outlets, and necessary equipment.

These cooperatives will next undergo verification, review, and handover before manager placements are finalized and operations commence.

The Indonesian government initiated the Red and White Village Cooperatives as centers for economic and social services in village communities, functioning as distribution hubs for logistics and subsidized goods, among others.
