Indonesia to upgrade part-time government workers to full-time status

Translate

Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesia's House of Representatives (DPR RI) and the government have agreed to upgrade part-time contract-based government employees (PPPK) across various professions to full-time status.

Deputy House Speaker Sufmi Dasco Ahmad said the agreement followed concerns raised with the House regarding the employment status of teachers, healthcare workers, technical staff, and other government employees.

“All the aspirations we received were discussed one by one at the House of Representatives together with the government,” Dasco said at a press conference at the parliamentary complex in Jakarta on Friday.

He said the House remained committed to addressing public concerns and resolving employment issues in cooperation with the government.

Minister of State Secretary Prasetyo Hadi said the policy would cover teachers, lecturers, firefighters, public order officers, healthcare workers, medical personnel, technical staff, and other government employees.

“Today, we have decided that part-time PPPK employees will be appointed as full-time PPPK employees,” Prasetyo said.

He added that employees appointed as full-time PPPK would also have the opportunity to participate in the civil servant recruitment process (CPNS) in 2027. The government is still considering special provisions on age requirements for certain fields.

The agreement also includes extending the employment contracts of non-civil servant teachers working at public schools who are registered in the Basic Education Data (Dapodik), as well as teachers under the Ministry of Religious Affairs whose contracts are due to expire in December 2026.

The same arrangement will apply to healthcare and medical personnel, Prasetyo said.

The policy will be implemented gradually from Jan. 1, 2027, he added. The government also plans to open registration for civil servant recruitment in November 2026, subject to fiscal capacity.

“Despite all the challenges we are facing together, we are committed to resolving them one by one,” he said.
