Nakamura Yuri of 'Romantics Anonymous' fame passes away after 13-year battle with cancer

Japanese-Korean actor Nakamura Yuri, best known for her role in the Netflix series 'Romantics Anonymous', has sadly passed away after a long battle with cancer. Her agency, Alpha Agency, confirmed the news of her passing on September 14.

According to the statement, Nakamura breathed her last on September 1. She was laid to rest in a private funeral that was attended by her immediate family, along with close friends and staff of the agency. As per the statement, Nakamura battled cancer for 13 years. At the time, the star and her agency reportedly decided not to disclose her cancer diagnosis. "She subsequently went into remission and continued happily pursuing the work she loved, while never failing to undergo her regular medical examinations," Alpha Agency wrote in the statement. However, things took a turn for the worse last January. The agency informed that the cancer was detected again. "Although the surgery was successful, metastasis was discovered following the operation. At that point, it was difficult to aim for a complete cure or remission, so the decision was made to continue treatment to manage the cancer while focusing on helping her live a longer, fulfilling life."In August this year, Nakamura's condition worsened when she developed another intestinal obstruction and was told that she had very little time left to live.

Despite her failing health, the statement assured fans, "She remained calm and never lost her beautiful, kind smile, and was able to cherish her final moments surrounded by her family and those close to her."Following the news of Yuri Nakamura's demise, friends, former co-stars and fellow members of the Japanese entertainment industry have since, paid tribute. Actor Jun Kaname wrote, "When we worked together last year, she was very energetic and did so much to liven up the atmosphere on set.""It’s just so heartbreaking. She had her whole life ahead of her," said co-star Ryohei Suzuki. "I met Yuri Nakamura 20 years ago at an acting school, and we went on to work together many times over the years. She was strong yet gentle, dignified and beautiful – truly a person who was like a lily. It’s heartbreaking."Born Yuri Sei in Neyagawa, Osaka, Nakamura appeared in numerous films and TV series in a career spanning close to 30 years. She was even seen in 2009's 'Ju-On: Black Ghost' and 2024's 'Beyond Goodbye'.
