In Melaka manifesto, PH vows to give youths 30% of local council contracts

Pakatan Harapan (PH) today unveiled an 11-point manifesto for the Melaka polls, vowing, among others, to allocate 30% of contracts under local councils to youths.

At a press conference, Melaka PH chief Adly Zahari said the 30% contract quota would help provide jobs and business opportunities for local youths.

The PH manifesto, named Aspirasi Melaka Rumah Kita, also pledged to optimise state land for public needs, including allowing earlier lease extensions without tenants having to wait until the existing tenure is less than 10 years.

The coalition vowed to allow the use of idle state land for modern agriculture, giving people a source of income while bolstering the state’s food security.

Without disclosing specific proposals, it also promised to provide better public transport in Melaka and deploy artificial intelligence technology to alleviate traffic congestion in the state’s hotspots.

Women empowerment, housing

The coalition also pledged to offer special grants to businesswomen and set up more government-run daycare centres to support working mothers.

PH also promised to offer more quality jobs to youths to allow them to make a living in Melaka without moving to other states.

It vowed to increase tourism-related activities and policies that prioritise tourism service providers so that economic benefits from this sector would benefit locals.

“We are looking to increase the number of tourists visiting Melaka to 25 million people by 2032, making the state a more competitive, international-level tourism destination,” said Adly.

The ex-chief minister said the manifesto incorporated input from the public and local businesses and was based on PH’s experience in governing Melaka as well as the country as a whole.

“We will unveil more of our focus areas to ensure that our pledges offer the best to the public – especially in helping them with the cost of living, which will remain our priority,” he said, adding that PH would hold a series of events to publicise its manifesto.

PH is contesting 24 out of 28 seats in the Nov 14 state election. It has formed a pact with Bersatu, which is vying for seven seats, clashing with PH in three.
