UP horror: Man assaults delivery agent over ‘small’ delay, arrested

A delivery executive faced assault from a customer in Meerut over a slight order delay.

MEERUT: A 22-year-old quick-commerce delivery executive was allegedly assaulted by a customer in Meerut’s Ganga Heights society on Friday night after an argument over a delay of a few minutes in delivering an order.

The accused, Yaman Kansal, 34, a branch manager with UCO Bank, was arrested on Saturday after the worker filed a complaint and CCTV footage of the incident was widely shared.

The victim, Amit Yadav, said he had been working part-time as a delivery agent for about a year while pursuing his studies. According to him, the dispute began when Kansal called to complain that the order was late. “I told him that the order was delayed by only around five minutes.

He argued it was already 15 minutes late. I told him that the reason for the delay would be visible on his app and that I would bring the order as soon as it was packed. He then told me to come to his home and said he would talk to me there,” Amit said.Amit said that when he reached Kansal’s flat, the argument escalated. He alleged that Kansal took away his mobile phone, accused him of misbehaving with his wife and threatened to implicate him in a rape case.

“He started saying that I had misbehaved with his wife and threatened to implicate me in a rape case. I kept telling him that if I had done anything wrong, he should call police. But no police call was made,” Amit alleged.CCTV footage from the society showed the two men arguing before Kansal allegedly took Amit’s phone and slapped and kicked him. The footage also purportedly showed Kansal taking Amit inside the flat, where the assault allegedly continued.

A woman was seen during the altercation and appeared to ask Kansal to take Amit inside the apartment. Amit further alleged that Kansal threatened to kill him and tried to take away his money.

“I am a student and work part-time in the evening to support myself. A minor delay in an order does not give anyone the right to assault or threaten a delivery worker,” he said.Amit left the society and later returned with his father. Deepak Sharma, security supervisor at Ganga Heights, said, “The delivery boy came out crying.

After some time, he returned with his father and told me what had happened. Several people gathered there. Soon after, Yaman also came downstairs with his family. I asked him about the incident and he said the matter should be settled.”The matter reached other delivery workers on Saturday morning after the CCTV video was shared in their Instagram group. After recognising Amit, they contacted him and then approached Bhawanpur police with a complaint.

Some delivery workers also reached the housing society and said they would stop work until action was taken against Kansal and he publicly apologised to Amit.Residents said Kansal had moved into the six-storey society with his wife and daughter around five months ago. Arvind Mittal, president of the society’s Apartment Owners’ Association, said residents were unhappy over the incident. “We will not allow the family to stay in the society.

Such an incident is unacceptable. The society should be a safe place for everyone, including delivery workers who come here to provide services,” Mittal said.Circle officer Sudhir Singh said police registered an FIR against Kansal under BNS sections 115 (voluntarily causing hurt) and 351 and 352 (criminal intimidation). “An FIR has been registered and the accused has been arrested. He will be produced before court as per procedure,” Singh said. Police said a report would also be sent to UCO Bank and tenant verification at the society would be examined. Further action will be based on investigation and CCTV footage.
