There are a lot of new The Lord of the Rings projects in the works right now. There's the new movies set in Peter Jackson's film trilogy universe, The Rings of Power show on Prime, some new video games in the works, and a successful tabletop RPG that will see new sourcebooks launching in 2027. And despite J.R.R. Tolkien's Middle-earth being about a century old, it's amazing that there's still new things to look forward to.

That list is about to grow even longer. One of the longest ongoing efforts from The Lord of the Rings franchise is about to release The Wolves of Mordor. On top of teasing hidden regions beyond Gorgoroth, The Wolves of Mordor will introduce a new threat into Tolkien's world of Middle-earth. And a new trailer has revealed just what to expect when The Wolves of Mordor arrives near the end of October.

The Wolves of Mordor trailer, which debuted on YouTube and can also be viewed above, shows off a number of things to expect with the new expansion arrives in The Lord of the Rings Online, the long-running MMORPG that's been adding new content since its debut in 2007. Among the many things the MMO is adding, the biggest might just be "were-wolves" that will stalk Mordor. These aren't upsized wolves or Wargs either, but a brand-new foe coming to Middle-earth.

The new update will also introduce Neighbours to its housing system, allowing companions to live in your home and form bonds with your character through daily tasks and gift-giving. There will also be 3 hidden new regions beyond the uncharted wilds of Draugardh: "the Mount Doom scorched Heledhris, the jagged plains of Parth Rhavas, and the shrouded forests of Nan Ogol." And of course, you'll also have those new were-wolf enemies to contend with as you explore the new zones.

The Wolves of Mordor is scheduled to launch on October 21, 2026, as part of The Lord of the Rings Online. In addition to the Standard Edition releasing for $39.99, there will also be a Collector's Edition for $79.99 and an Ultimate Edition for $129.99. The premium editions come with a host of extra in-game items, including Were-wolf Hunter cosmetics, a Hound pet, immediate access to Neighbours, and a 160 Were-wolf Hunter's level-up earring.

The Wolves of Mordor is available to preorder now, and these terrifying new were-wolf enemies will arrive just in time for Halloween. The MMO itself is free to play, so if you've never experienced The Lord of the Rings Online before, consider giving it a try. It's a solid game that's pretty much perfect for fans of The Lord of the Rings.
