William Shatner bizarrely weighs in on Aldi row over ‘intimidating’ letter

William Shatner has condemned global supermarket chain Aldi, claiming its accounting team "does not know how to count or use a calendar".

The Star Trek actor, 95, contacted Aldi UK on X on Tuesday following a post from Radio Essex presenter Chris Brooks, who reported that his son received an "intimidating" letter from the business.

The broadcaster stated the retailer "threatened" his son after an overpayment occurred, adding the firm "never mentioned" the matter prior to issuing the warning notice.

"Threatening him with debt recovery action and asking for immediate payment (on a date 2 weeks before you’ve even sent the letter) is awful," the former Capital FM host wrote.

"You made the mistake not him."

Brooks also attached an image showing the original letter sent by Aldi, which requested the prompt return of their £97.64 overpayment.

The supermarket chain replied: “We’re sorry to see this, Chris.

“We are unable to assist with this at customer services and would advise getting in touch with the telephone or email from the top right of the page.”

Canadian actor Shatner waded into the drama on Tuesday as he responded to Brooks’ post, writing: “Hey @AldiUK.

“Tell your CEO that he should be looking into his accounting department as the department obviously does not (know) how to count or use a calendar.

“While he’s at it; he should figure out how much the company spent sending this letter. I’m sure it more than £97!”

Aldi UK has been contacted for comment.

Shatner is best known for playing Captain James T Kirk in the Star Trek franchise from 1966 to 1994.

He continued his successful career, appearing in films such as Miss Congeniality and Airplane II: The Sequel, and won Emmy and Golden Globe Awards for his role in hit series Boston Legal.

In 2021, the star became the oldest person to fly in space after being a passenger aboard Blue Origin NS-18.

Shatner also performed his first heavy metal gig at Riot Fest in Chicago last month with his newly formed band The *uckers.

It comes after the punk rock festival spent years trying to get him to perform.
