Netflix Strikes Deal With Globo For Brazilian Fare Including ‘I’m Still Here’ & ‘India – A Love Story’

Netflix has bought a raft of films and series from Brazilian powerhouse Globo including Walter Salles’ Oscar-winning movie I’m Still Here.

The U.S. streamer’s agreement with Globo fare is the largest ever programming deal between the two. Netflix has acquired a package of fourteen movies, a trio of telenovelas and a TV series.

The deal for I’m Still Here is just for Brazil. Elsewhere, Netflix has taken global rights to titles including Vitória, directed by Andrucha Waddington and starring the Academy Award nominee Fernanda Montenegro.

Another Brazil-only rights deal is for comedy series Vai Que Cola, created by Leandro Soares and directed by João Fonseca and Regis Faria. Netflix has acquired seven seasons of the show.

The telenovela selection includes India – A Love Story. Created by Glória Perez and directed by Marcos Schechtman, it won the 2009 International Emmy for Best Telenovela. Specifically, Netflix has it for the U.S. and Latin America.

The titles will drop on Netflix from mid-2027.

The agreement is a big sales story for Globo. Meanwhile, the Brazilian media giant has also been in buying mode. It has acquired game show The Perfect Line from Paramount Global Content Distribution.

The series bowed on GSN in the U.S. In Brazil, the local version will feature as a segment on Globo’s Saturday afternoon entertainment show Caldeirão com Mion.

The format challenges contestants to place a selection of items, events or facts in the correct order.
