Matthew McConaughey Reveals the Hollywood Advice He Gives Son Levi: “Fail More”
Matthew McConaughey’s latest milestone took way more than 10 days.
The How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days star turns 57 years old Nov. 4. And unlike that love fern, he’s continuing to grow.
Though, Matthew admits his excitement for his sixth decade didn’t sprout right away.
"The first few years of 50s were a little wobbly for me," he noted on Jay Shetty’s On Purpose podcast in January. "So you go, ‘Oh, is this that midlife crisis?'"
Actually, the Oscar winner prefers a different term.
"Sounds like a midlife, for a lack of a better word, opportunity," he continued. "It’s a time where, for whatever reason, man looks back and goes, ‘What have I done, and now where am I going?'"
It’s a journey that’s made Matthew focus more on his own story versus the ones he tells on the big screen.
"The challenge that keeps just gnawing at me since I’ve turned 50 is, 'What’s your documentary?'" he explained. “Are you a character in life, in the big show—the one that 'action' was called the day you were born and 'cut' will be called the day you die?"
And as the Interstellar alum begins his next act, he’s grateful to be surrounded by his cast of family members, including wife Camila Alves McConaughey and their kids Levi, 18, Vida, 16, and Livingston, 13.
“As life gets big—you’ve got a career and you’ve got a family—there’s many parts to play: Father, husband, performer, writer, whatever those are," Matthew added. "Instead of feeling like five different hats you gotta wear one day, you go, 'Oh, that’s all part of the same story. That’s all part of the same man I am.'"
One who’s proud to be a part of the dad club.
"The only thing I ever knew I wanted to be was a father," the Dallas Buyers Club star told People in 2020. "And it's remained the pinnacle for me. Being a dad was always my only dream…I can't think of anything being more important."
