Suzuki has called back hundreds of its Grand Vitara SUVs after discovering the fuel gauge may not tell drivers when the tank is running low.

The Japanese automaker confirmed that 543 vehicles sold since May last year were affected by the recall, the National Consumer Commission said this week.

“According to the manufacturer, the low fuel warning light may not turn on as the fuel level decreases. The driver may therefore not be alerted that the fuel level is low, which could result in the vehicle running out of fuel, causing the engine to stall and prevent it from starting,” the commission said in the statement.

Owners must visit a dealership for an inspection and free repair.

In November last year, the automaker’s manufacturing subsidiary in India, Maruti Suzuki, issued a recall affecting 39 506 of its Grand Vitara models over incorrect fuel readings and the possibility of low fuel readings not being shown.

According to the notice issued at the time, the recall affected models manufactured between December 2024 and April 2025.
