The Department of Agriculture (DA) is expected to hold bilateral discussions with representatives from other countries during a global meeting of agricultural leaders and experts in Manila aimed at strengthening agricultural mechanization.
The Philippines is set to host the Asia-Pacific Conference on Sustainable Agricultural Mechanization (APSAM) 2026 on November 23 to 26.
DA spokesperson Arnel de Mesa, however, declined to give further details about the countries that requested to have bilateral talks with the Philippines.
"There will be bilateral discussions. So I cannot divulge at this moment what will be the main agenda for these bilateral discussions. Once we conclude it, we can share it, the results of this bilateral [talks]," he said during the launch of the upcoming summit.
"Again, we received several requests. But I cannot divulge yet the countries," he added.
The conference, organized by the Food and Agricultural Organization of the United Nations, aims to promote sustainable agricultural mechanization by sharing best practices, and showcasing innovative technologies and financing models.
"It calls for a sustainable agricultural mechanization ecosystem that brings together appropriate technologies, accessible services, financing, policies, and partnerships that respond to the diverse needs of our farmers," said De Mesa.
"By working together, we can accelerate the adoption of appropriate technologies, strengthen agricultural value chains, and build farming systems that are more productive, resilient, and sustainable," he added.
Aside from representatives in Asia Pacific, the conference will also be attended by agricultural representatives from several continents, including Africa. — VDV, GMA News
