GH¢35m Darkuman 24-hour market to be completed in 16 months — MCE

The Ablekuma North Municipal Assembly has begun construction of a GH¢35 million 24-hour market at Darkuman, with the facility expected to be completed within 16 months.
Municipal Chief Executive Adamu Musah Kalamu said the project was intended to improve trading conditions while opening up new employment opportunities for residents in the municipality.
He expressed confidence that the contractor would meet the agreed completion period and deliver a facility that would serve traders and residents.
“It is our prayer and hope that the contractor, as stated in the contract, within 16 months will hand over the site, the completed market to the good people of Ablekuma North,” he said.
Mr Musah Kalamu said local artisans, labourers, carpenters and other young people would be encouraged to take up employment opportunities created by the project.
He said discussions had already been held with the contractors to prioritise qualified residents during the construction process.
The MCE also disclosed that funding for the project had been released and urged the contractor to maintain the required quality standards while working within the agreed timeframe.
He appealed to residents to cooperate with the contractor and support the project to ensure its timely completion. “We want the community to give our contractors all the necessary support so that they will finish in record time,” he said.
The completed 24-hour market is expected to provide improved trading space and support economic activity in the Ablekuma North Municipality.
