‘Avengers Endgame: Encore’ to finally overtake 'Avatar'
The Marvel blockbuster is now just USD 39 million short of the 'Avatar' box office record, following its latest theatrical rerelease in cinemas as 'Avengers Endgame: Encore'. As per the latest trade reports, the film earned an estimated USD 86 million worldwide during the September 25-27 weekend, taking its global lifetime gross to approximately USD 2.885 billion. This leaves it within striking distance of 'Avatar', which currently holds the all-time worldwide box office record.The film was re-released in theatres amid much hype and anticipation, featuring around four minutes of previously unseen footage that reportedly links the plot to 'Avengers: Doomsday'. Among the many scenes added to the film, was one sequence involving Tom Hiddleston's Loki interrupting Chris Evan's Steve Rogers during his dance with Peggy Carter. Some of the additional footage is being shown exclusively on IMAX and Infinity Vision screens.
‘Avengers Endgame: Encore’ performance in India
In India, 'Avengers Endgame: Encore' added Rs 2.05 crore net on Day 6 across 3,464 shows, according to the figures provided. The rerelease has so far collected Rs 29.35 crore net and Rs 35.07 crore gross in the country.As per box office reports, India was also among the biggest international markets for the rerelease, contributing an estimated over Rs 25 crore in opening-weekend gross collections. It ranked fifth globally, behind the US (USD 26 million), China (USD 13.5 million), the UK (USD 5.4 million) and Mexico (USD 4.3 million).The rerelease has additionally crossed the 400-million mark in worldwide ticket sales, according to the figures circulating online.
‘Avengers: Doomsday’ eyes record-breaking box office start
'Endgame' now needs under USD 40 million to overtake 'Avatar' and reclaim the box office throne, before likely passing it on to 'Avengers: Doomsday', which is rumoured to open to record-breaking numbers at the box office. The film is rumoured to be tracking a USD 1 billion opening and a lifetime haul of USD 3 billion.
