MELAKA, Nov 6 — DAP is focusing on retaining the four seats it currently holds in the 16th Melaka state election, its secretary-general Anthony Loke Siew Fook said.

He listed the seats as Kota Laksamana, Bandar Hilir, Kesidang and Ayer Keroh and added that the party would also seek to capture three other seats - Duyong, Gadek and Pengkalan Batu.

“We are aware that there will be strong challenges in Duyong, Gadek and Pengkalan Batu. Nevertheless, we will work hard to win these seats,” he told reporters after attending the Malam Harapan programme at Pay Fong High School Hall in Jalan Tan Chay Yan here last night.

The programme was attended by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, who is also Pakatan Harapan (PH) chairman, and Parti Amanah Negara president Datuk Seri Mohamad Sabu.

Asked about the cooperation between Barisan Nasional (BN) and Perikatan Nasional (PN) in facing the Melaka state election, Loke said it was a challenge that PH would have to contend with.

“When they (BN and PN) do not contest against each other and ask their respective supporters to support their cndidates, this gives them an advantage and presents a challenge for us.

“Nevertheless, we will continue to strive because, in any election, we must do our best to gain the support of the people,” he said.

The Election Commission has set Nov 14 as polling day for the 16th Melaka State Election, while early voting will take place on Nov 10. — Bernama
