I Lost 99 Percent Of Everything I Earned In Football Because Of Family Issues, Agents — Roberto Carlos

Legendary Brazil and Real Madrid left-back Roberto Carlos has revealed that he lost 99 percent of everything he earned in football due to family and agents issues.

Carlos was one of the key figures at the opening of the second day of the “Portugal Football Summit” and participated in the panel “Beyond the pitch: building a brand and legacy in football”.

According to Gazeta Express, the 53-year-old 2002 World Cup winner and one of the most prestigious left-backs in football history, revealed that he had always tried to prepare for his future while still competing at the highest level.

“I’ve always thought about the phase after my career. It’s about building a story as a player and making the most of your image. When I decided to leave football, I already had a sports director’s license and was working with many brands,” explained the current Real Madrid ambassador.

The newspaper “Record” reports Carlos’s account that, despite his planning, he suffered a severe financial blow, to the point that he lost almost all the wealth accumulated over the decades of his career.

“I had problems with people who left my bank account empty. Due to agents and family issues, I lost 99 percent of everything I had earned in football. I made mistakes and, for this reason, I ask young people not to do the same. Paul reorganized my life. With ‘Entourage’ I was able to restructure my financial and family life,” he revealed about an issue that affects many footballers.

Carlos, who played 527 games for Real Madrid and 127 for the Brazilian national team, explained that “I had a serious problem with my former agent. I had an extremely serious family problem. On Thursday I went to bed at midnight and, on Friday, I received a stack of documents that I was not aware of. That’s when I lost my whole story.”
