London borough named one of best places in UK to grow old - did your area make the list?

A leafy London borough has been named one of the best places in the UK to grow old.

Bromley, in the south-east of the capital, was named 11th out of 294 districts after accumulating impressive scores over 37 measures related to later life.

They were across categories such as health, care, getting around without a car, housing and living costs, the local environment, and community and safety.

Bromley performed particularly well for those without a car, ranking second in London and ninth nationally on that theme.

According to the study it had the capital's second-best provision of railway stations.

Health was another strength, with Bromley coming 19th in England, with life expectancy at 65 standing at a further 21.5 years than average, the 21st-longest in the country.

The study also reported that 85.1 per cent of GP appointments were seen the same or next day - the second-highest level in London.

It also has London's second-lowest share of over-60s living on a low income and third-lowest rate of fuel poverty.

Bromley wasn't the only London borough to perform well in the study, from care home operator Lovett Care.

It had the highest environment and community and safety scores in the capital.

Only 2.89% of adults in the south-west London borough report feeling lonely often or always, the lowest rate in London and second-lowest in England, and are said to be the second-longest living in the country.

Sutton came third in London and 57th in England.

It boasts the fastest GP appointments in the capital, with 85.7% of patients seen the same or next day.

Sutton also scored highly for care, with 96.1% of services graded Good or better by the Care Quality Commission.
