Lewis Hamilton has apologised to Ferrari for letting the team down for a strategy call that ultimately cost him a Formula 1 podium finish, which seemed very achievable, at the Singapore Grand Prix on Sunday.

Hamilton’s post-race radio message suggested that it was his choice to stay on older tyres rather than risk losing positions with a second pit stop.

“Sorry boys, I let you down today with that strategy. My call and I lost us valuable points,” Hamilton said. “I’ll try and make up for it in the next one. Great job with the pit stop, though.”

The seven-time champion was as high as second place but was left scrabbling for grip on the streets of Singapore. He was first passed by his teammate, Charles Leclerc, then was hunted down by Kimi Antonelli, Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri, dropping all the way to sixth.
