Bafana Bafana open training camp in Jozi ahead of AFCON qualifiers

Bafana Bafana players have begun arriving in Johannesburg ahead of their upcoming 2027 AFCON qualifiers fixtures.

South Africa face Guinea at the Orlando Stadium on 26 September, then travel to meet Eritrea next Wednesday (30 September).

The national squad will also be preparing for their friendly clash against fellow African giants Egypt next month.

Players based outside of the country and the continent are expected to arrive at the camp later this evening (Monday).

Bafana Bafana fixture details

2027 AFCON qualifiers, Group D

  • South Africa vs Guinea: Saturday, 26 September, Orlando Stadium, Soweto (15:00)
  • Eritrea vs South Africa: Wednesday, 30 September, Al-Salam Stadium, Cairo (18:00)

International friendly

  • Egypt vs South Africa: Sunday, 4 October, Cairo International Stadium, Cairo (20:00)

Who’s in the squad for the AFCON qualifiers?

The final XI for the Guinea clash is expected to be announced later this week.

However, coach Pitso Mosimane previously announced a 30-man squad for the upcoming fixtures, trimmed down from 35 players named initially.

The new Bafana Bafana boss was clear on the reason for his selections, as cited by SAFA:

“We select (based) on form, we select on experience, and we select on availability and the impact of injuries.”

Mosimane has retained the core of the Bafana Bafana squad that competed in the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

A few new names have been added, with others missing out due to injury.
