Weather Report: a damp start to the week

The Monday, 5 October Weather Report shows a damp, unsettled start to the week.
The South African Weather Service (SAWS) expects isolated showers and thundershowers.
These are likely across Gauteng, Mpumalanga, Limpopo, North West and the Free State.
SAWS has issued warnings for disruptive rain over parts of the Eastern Cape interior.
These include Willowmore, Jansenville, Graaff Reinet and Somerset East. A separate severe thunderstorm warning covers areas around Matatiele and Mount Ayliff.
Gauteng stays cloudy and cool.
It is warm in the extreme north.
Isolated showers and thundershowers are expected.
Johannesburg starts the day at a chilly 10°C. It reaches 22°C later.

The Northern Cape stays fine and cool to warm.
It is hot in places.
It turns partly cloudy to cloudy in the afternoon.
Coastal winds are moderate to fresh north-easterly.
Kimberley stays partly cloudy.
The Western Cape has a mild day. Cape Town is partly cloudy.
Temperatures range from 13°C to 23°C. No rain is expected. Light westerly winds of about 10 km/h keep conditions relaxed.
SAWS forecasts a very high UVB sunburn index for the province. Sun protection is worth taking seriously.
There is no Cape Town-specific warning today.
The Eastern Cape carries today’s warnings.
Disruptive rain is expected over parts of the interior.
It’s worth avoiding low-lying roads and river crossings around Willowmore, Jansenville, Graaff Reinet and Somerset East.
In the north-east, severe thunderstorms are possible around Matatiele and Mount Ayliff.
Gqeberha is partly cloudy. It reaches a warm 27°C.
KwaZulu-Natal starts with fog over the interior.
Isolated showers and rain affect the extreme north-east in the morning. Otherwise, it is partly cloudy and cool to warm.
Isolated afternoon showers and thundershowers will develop in the west.
Coastal winds are moderate westerly to south-westerly north of Mandeni in the morning.
They turn light to moderate easterly to north-easterly later. Durban stays partly cloudy.

The Western Cape enjoys a calm, mild day. Even so, it’s worth keeping a close eye on local updates if you’re anywhere near the Eastern Cape’s interior today.
