Troops kill suspected terrorist, recover two AK-47s in Plateau

Troops of Sector 2, Operation Enduring Peace, have neutralised a suspected terrorist and recovered two AK-47 rifles and other items during an operation in Wase Local Government Area of Plateau State.

The troops, deployed at Zak village, reportedly carried out the operation on Saturday, August 29, 2026, at about 9:50am, following intelligence on the activities of criminal elements in the area.

The Media Information Officer of Operation Enduring Peace, Capt. Polycarp Oteh, who disclosed this in a statement on Sunday, said the operation was aimed at disrupting criminal activities and denying terrorists freedom of action within the joint operations area.

According to him, the troops, while conducting stop-and-search operations, sighted and intercepted a green-coloured Golf vehicle with registration number DIK-808XM.

Oteh said the troops discovered a concealed compartment in the vehicle’s dashboard while attempting to search it.

He said the driver refused to open the compartment and fled into a nearby bush, prompting the troops to pursue and apprehend him.

“Upon being apprehended, the driver attempted to disarm one of the soldiers and was swiftly neutralised,” he said.

Items recovered from the vehicle included two AK-47 rifles, one magazine, two wooden rifle butts, nine magazine pouches, two camel bags, six jungle hats, a mobile phone and an ATM card.

The Commander, Operation Enduring Peace, Maj.-Gen. Maxwell Dangana, commended the troops for what he described as their decisive and aggressive posture during operations.

Dangana urged the troops to sustain the approach in ongoing offensive operations against criminal elements within the Operation Enduring Peace Joint Operations Area.

He also appreciated residents for their support and urged them to strengthen collaboration with security agencies by providing timely and actionable information to aid efforts to protect lives and property.
