What is 'Ghajini' actor Asin doing after quitting movies? Her husband Rahul Sharma reveals how she's raising their daughter Arin Rayn Sharma: 'No TV, no phones, she can understand and speak about 12 languages'

Asin Thottumkal was once among the most popular actresses in Indian cinema, having made a mark in Tamil and Telugu films before entering Bollywood opposite Aamir Khan in 'Ghajini' (2008). The film went on to become the first Hindi film to cross the Rs 100 crore mark at the domestic box office.

Despite achieving considerable success, Asin stepped away from acting after marrying Rahul Sharma, co-founder of Micromax, in 2016.Rahul opened up about their relationship, crediting Asin for being a constant source of strength and support in his life. He described her as someone who has always encouraged him to pursue his ambitions, regardless of the challenges he faces.“Marrying Asin was the most important thing that worked well for me.

She is the rock behind me. If anything happens, whatever it is, she is the one who says, ‘Don’t worry… you just move forward.’ She understands me and my passion. She is a blind believer. If you have such people around you, life becomes very easy,” he said in an interview with MyGov India.Emphasising the importance of having a supportive partner, Rahul added, “Our partner should be the person who lifts us, not one who pulls us from behind,” he pointed out, adding that the same logic applies in friendship as well.

“She is that person for me… she lifts me. Her contribution to my life is more than what I can explain.”Rahul also spoke about their daughter, Arin Rayn Sharma, and expressed amazement at her ability to understand and speak multiple languages at such a young age.“We also have a beautiful daughter (Arin Rayn Sharma). She is just seven years old now but can already understand and speak about 12 languages, including Korean, Japanese, Thai, and Chinese.

I am finding it difficult to speak even two languages. We are stuck with English and Hindi.”Reflecting on how Asin manages their family while he focuses on his professional commitments, Rahul said, “You are not just fighting a war outside, but you also have to face a similar one within your home, right? She (Asin) is the one who takes care of the latter [in our home]. I have never seen a person like her in my life,” he said.He also revealed that the couple have chosen to keep television and mobile phones away from their daughter, encouraging her to spend her time reading instead.

Giving Asin credit for the approach, Rahul said, “We have not given Arin any screens thus far — no TVs or mobile phones. We only have books at home. We probably have more books at home than Arin has at her school. She is in Class 2 right now, but we already have books for Classes 8 and 9 at home.

I quip once in a while, saying, ‘Let her appear for the Class 10 board exam as well. What difference does it make?’ It’s all Asin’s contribution to us,” he pointed out, giving full credit to Asin for the person Arin has turned out to be.Born in Keralam, Asin began her career with advertisements before making her acting debut in the Malayalam film 'Narendran Makan Jayakanthan Vaka' in 2001. She later starred opposite Ravi Teja in the Telugu film 'Amma Nanna O Tamila Ammayi' (2003), which proved to be her breakthrough.Asin made her Hindi film debut with 'Ghajini', reprising the role she had played in the original Tamil film of the same name. She subsequently appeared alongside Salman Khan in 'London Dreams' (2009) and 'Ready' (2011), and starred in Akshay Kumar's 'Housefull 2' and 'Khiladi 786', both released in 2012. That year, she also featured opposite Ajay Devgn in 'Bol Bachchan'. Her last film was 'All Is Well' (2015), co-starring Abhishek Bachchan, before she retired from acting following her marriage.
