Coronation Street plans shock punch scene for Tyrone and Chesney

Coronation Street's Tyrone Dobbs punches his brother-in-law Chesney Brown next week after a dispute between their children turns toxic – thanks to meddling Ross Wilkes.
Fiz can't believe it when her husband turns on her brother, fuelled by his need to impress his brutish father. Tyrone instantly regrets his terrible actions, but it's too late to take it back. Is Ross's influence over his son changing him beyond all recognition?

"Nobody punches Ches," explains Alan Halsall, who plays Tyrone. "When it becomes physical, there's an immediate realisation from Tyrone: 'Oh God, this isn't me, this isn't right, I shouldn't have done that!'
"He might not be willing to admit to himself straight away that he did it for his dad."
Trouble begins when Dorin tells Tyrone that Aled punched him, and Ross begins winding him up.
Normally, Ty and Fiz would have had a calm chat with Ches and Gemma about Aled, but Ross insists his son needs to get tough with them. He pushes and pushes Tyrone to take action – soon, Tyrone heads over to confront the Winter-Browns and it all kicks off.
"Ross continuously drip-feeds him things like, 'Ty, you need to stand up for yourself, you need to stand up for your family!'" reveals Alan. "Then, once Chesney looks at Tyrone and says, 'Come on, mate, what are you doing? This is ridiculous,' that gets Tyrone's back up because he feels he has to do it to show his dad.

"He's basically caught in the middle of it and causes a row that would never have happened prior to Ross being there."
The nasty moment shocks Chesney, Gemma, and especially Fiz, who is already deeply suspicious of Ross and his influence on Tyrone.
The next day, Fiz insists Tyrone apologise to Chesney, but Ross pats his son on the back for standing firm. Will this conflict lead to marital trouble for Fiz and Tyrone?
"Ross definitely has the capability to cause problems between them," admits Alan. "Tyrone doesn't see the manipulation, whereas Fiz is quick to spot it. To Tyrone, it looks like these things are small hurdles they can get past, so he tells Fiz to stop being so harsh. But he's not seeing the bigger picture."

Sadly for Fiz, it looks as though Ross will continue to be a bad influence as Tyrone fails to clock that Daddy Dearest is a wrong'un. Is there any hope?
"Tyrone is the exact opposite of toxic masculinity," muses Alan. "He's passive, wears his heart on his sleeve and has two daughters. He'll eventually see the light, but it might take some time because he wants that relationship with his dad so badly."
Coronation Street airs on weeknights at 8.30pm on ITV1 and streams on ITVX.
