Romo issued new citations related to July arrest

Tony Romo on Thursday was issued three new citations stemming from his July arrest in Wisconsin, with a spokesperson for the former Dallas Cowboys quarterback telling multiple outlets that he takes "full responsibility for his actions."

Romo was pulled over by the Milwaukee County Sheriff's Office following a July 23 traffic stop after he was seen passing cars in a gore area, which separates interstate traffic from cars entering from an on-ramp. He performed poorly on field sobriety tests and was taken into custody, booked for suspicion of operating a vehicle while under the influence and released.

Romo was was initially cited for refusing to take a test for intoxication after an arrest. On Thursday, he was issued three new citations -- unsafe passing on the right, first offense OWI and possessing open intoxicants - court records in Wisconsin show.

He's scheduled to have a Sept. 21 court appearance.

Romo previously was placed on leave by CBS Sports, where he's been the lead game analyst since 2017. CBS Sports president David Berson said earlier this month that Romo's future with the network is an "evolving situation (that) we are still assessing."

Romo's spokesperson said Thursday the sides are speaking about next steps.

"Tony accepts full responsibility for his actions and has taken proactive steps to ensure that this isolated civil matter is properly resolved," the spokesperson said in a statement to the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel and TMZ. "We are working with local authorities to bring this matter to a close and we are communicating with CBS about next steps."

Romo, 46, made four Pro Bowl appearances during an NFL career that ran from 2004 to 2016 and was spent entirely with the Cowboys.
