VIJAYAWADA: Ganesh Utsav celebrations turned tragic in the city after a woman died of severe burn injuries sustained when she accidentally fell into a vessel containing boiling sambar during an ‘annadanam’ (free food donation) programme.The deceased was identified as Sujatha, a resident of Chittinagar in Vijayawada. The incident occurred on September 20, when devotees were organising a free food distribution programme as part of Ganesh Chaturthi celebrations.According to the available information, Sujatha was involved in cooking arrangements for the annadanam.While the organisers were attempting to move a large vessel of hot sambar, she reportedly lost her balance and accidentally fell into the vessel.She suffered severe burn injuries in the mishap. Family members and others present at the spot immediately rushed her to a government hospital in Vijayawada, where she was admitted for treatment.Despite efforts by doctors to save her, Sujatha succumbed to her injuries while undergoing treatment, leaving her family and relatives devastated.The incident cast a shadow over the Ganesh Chaturthi celebrations in the area, turning what was meant to be a festive occasion into a tragedy.

Police registered a case in connection with the incident and launched an investigation.Officials are examining the circumstances that led to the accident and are collecting details from those who were present during the annadanam programme.CCTV footage of the incident went viral across social media platforms.
