Austin Butler, Michael B. Jordan Suit Up as Crockett and Tubbs in ‘Miami Vice ’85’ First Look
Universal has released the first look at Michael B. Jordan and Austin Butler as Tubbs and Crockett in the upcoming reboot of the 1980s TV classic Miami Vice.
Below is Jordan — bearded, stern, and wearing a leather jacket — as Det. Ricardo “Rico” Tubbs, and also Butler, taking aim in a grey suit (not, alas, the iconic white one) as Det. James “Sonny” Crockett.
The duo star in Miami Vice ’85 under director Joseph Kosinski (Top Gun: Maverick) with a script by Dan Gilroy (Nightcrawler).
The supporting cast includes Alden Ehrenreich, Camila Morrone, Walton Goggins, John Leguizamo, Danny Ramirez, Andre Holland, Michael Irby and Whitney Peak.
The groundbreaking original NBC series starred Don Johnson and Philip Michael Thomas as two Miami detectives working undercover to take down drug kingpins across five seasons. Director and executive producer Michael Mann was widely credited for the show’s sleek visual style, which was considered groundbreaking at the time. Mann later rebooted the project for the 2006 movie Miami Vice, which starred Colin Farrell and Jamie Foxx, but the resulting film was considered a commercial and critical disappointment at the time. The original series is also widely credited for helping inspire the hit game Grand Theft Auto: Vice City.
Miami Vice ’85 is currently in production and will be released in theaters May 19, 2028.
