Nine tap inhouse presenter for 6pm sports gig
Channel Nine has announced Gold Coast journalist and presenter Bronte Gildea will take over as sports presenter for its 6pm news in Queensland.
Gildea will move from the Gold Coast newsroom to the big smoke to present the Monday to Friday sports news in the new year.
A regular fixture on Nine’s Wide World of Sport, NRL and NRLW coverage, Gildea, who is the partner of Broncos star Pat Carrigan, will join the established 6pm presenting team of Melissa Downes and Joel Dry.
“I’m excited and honoured to be joining the 9News Queensland desk as a more permanent fixture. Queenslanders are fiercely passionate about their sport, and as someone who lives and breathes it every day, it’s an enthusiasm I share deeply,” Gildea said of her appointment.
“From local grassroots competitions to every major code, having the opportunity to cover the big stories, capture the moments that matter, and connect with our viewers every night is a privilege not to be taken for granted.”
Nine News Queensland director of news Brendan Hockings, said Gildea’s enthusiasm and dedication made her a great fit for the role.
“I have every confidence that Bronte will continue to produce the high-impact sports coverage our loyal viewers rely on night after night,” he said.
Dominique Loudon will continue to present sports on the weekend for the broadcast station owned by Nine Entertainment, which also owns this masthead.
As part of the changes triggered by Gildea’s appointment, Mikayla Sorby will move to the Gold Coast newsroom as a full-time sports presenter.
