Several youth groups on Tuesday questioned before the Supreme Court the postponement of the 2026 Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections (BSKE).

According to a report on Unang Balita, the groups said the postponement violates the 1987 Constitution and the rights of the youth.

In September, the SC directed the Office of the President, Congress, and the Commission on Elections (Comelec) to comment on a petition challenging the postponement of the BSKE.

The petition was filed by election lawyer Romulo Macalintal.

This came after President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. signed into law Republic Act 12326, which moved the next regular BSKE to the second Monday of November 2028, with succeeding elections to be held every five years thereafter. — VDV, GMA News
