‘The Pitt’ Star Noah Wyle Wins Second Straight Emmy for Best Actor in a Drama Series

Call it the recognition of another hard day’s work for Dr. Robby.

Noah Wyle has won at the 2026 Emmys for best actor in a drama series for the second consecutive year, all but cruising to victory as The Pitt led all shows in nominations in 2026 (with 25). The ER alum was also nominated this year for best drama, as an executive producer on The Pitt, and for directing, as he helmed the emotional sixth episode of the season, “12:00 P.M.”

“This is overwhelming,“ Wyle said when taking the stage. The actor went on to acknowledge fellow nominees Gary Oldman, Sterling K. Brown, Rufus Sewell and Mark Ruffalo.

“I watch you and learn from you,“ he told them, giving a special shoutout to Oldman in particular.

During his acceptance speech, the actor also expressed gratitude for the cast and creatives on The Pitt, noting that they‘d have an early work day tomorrow.

“I grew up in L.A. I‘m a Hollywood kid. I was raised on a television. Movie theaters were my place of worship. This is all I‘ve ever wanted to do and this is the only club I‘ve ever wanted to join. Thank you for accepting me,“ he said.

The Pitt exploded in Emmy nominations for its second season, coming off of a breakout freshman run that saw Wyle win alongside co-stars Katherine LaNasa (supporting actress) and Shawn Hatosy (guest actor). This year, all three winners returned to the competition this year alongside a slew of newcomers, including supporting players Patrick Ball, Gerran Howell, Fiona Dourif, Sepideh Moafi and Taylor Dearden. At last weekend’s Creative Arts Awards, Ernest Harden Jr. won the guest-acting award for his heartrending turn as patient Louie Cloverfield.

For his part, Wyle triumphed at the 2026 Emmys over returning nominees Oldman (Slow Horses) and Brown (Paradise), as well as category newcomers Sewell (The Diplomat) and Ruffalo (Task). The win was widely expected, with Wyle again digging into rich material as Dr. Robby contended with leaving his job behind temporarily and came to grips with some of his repressed trauma.

“You’re watching a guy who knows he’s drowning, not want to accept a life preserver, who actually has convinced himself that it might be easier to drown — and yet, as the shift goes on, the idea of leaving all of his fellow shipmates stranded, or in an environment that’s not set up for success, is increasingly difficult for him, as is the decision to leave,” Wyle told The Hollywood Reporter of Robby’s season-two arc. “It’s really about coming in with one resolute idea, which is, ‘I’m excited to go on the sabbatical and this is my last day and I can’t wait to get out of here,’ and then, as the day goes on, you just start to chip away at that resolve and show that the closer you get to the door, the closer you’re coming to facing your own mortality.”

Season three of The Pitt will explore Dr. Robby’s tenuous return after his break. It’s expected to premiere in January.
