Heather McMahan Sets Hulu Launch For Third Stand-Up Special ‘By A Thread’

EXCLUSIVE: Comedian Heather McMahan has announced that her third special, By a Thread, will premiere on Hulu on October 16.

In the new hour, filmed across two sold-out nights at The Bijou Theatre in Knoxville, TN, the Southern comic leaves no stone unturned, from being canceled by golf and the MAGA-sphere attempting to claim her as one of their own, to husband Jeff’s kidney stones and getting her neck done — twice.

McMahan unveils the hour following her recent national tour, The Bamboozled Tour. She wrote, performed and self-produced it via her Absolutely Not Productions. The special is directed by Jen Zaborowski and exec produced by Maggie Haskins and Christina Tompkins alongside McMahan and Zaborowski.

Born and raised in Atlanta, McMahan is known for material on relationships, family, aging, and the everyday chaos of trying to hold it all together. The rare comic to release each of her first three specials to premium streamers, her last hour, Breadwinner, premiered on Hulu in October 2024. Prior to that, she put out the Netflix special Son I Never Had, which debuted at #4 in October 2023 and held a top-10 position for seven days.

Outside of stand-up, McMahan has been seen on Is It Cake? and The Great American Baking Show — Celeb Edition as well as on Celebrity Jeopardy, winning her first-round match-up vs. Cynthia Nixon & Cedric the Entertainer. She’s co-hosted E!’s Live from the Red Carpet for the Emmys, Grammys and Oscars, is a frequent guest and co-host on the fourth hour of The Today Show, alongside Jenna Bush Hager, and starred opposite Nina Dobrev and Jimmy O. Yang in Netflix’s Christmas movie, Love Hard.

Next May, McMahan is set to take off on her sophomore comedy cruise, Absolutely Knot!, taking place on the Norwegian Jewel. The comedian is repped by UTA, Artists First, and Ziffren Brittenham.
