EUROMATCH-NPFL: How We Came Back To Beat 3SC — Plateau United Coach Ogunbote

Plateau United head coach Gbenga Ogunbote has explained how his team came from behind to defeat visiting Shooting Stars of Ibadan on Sunday.

Ogunbote’s side went behind after Abubakar Taheer opened the scoring in the 15th minute.

Five minutes into the second half Jibril Ibrahimi equalised for Plateau United before Seiyefa Jackson made it 2-1 on 71 minutes.

In the 84th minute Shooting Stars had a player sent off after Gbolagade Adelowo was shown a straight red card.

Just three minutes after the sending off, Plateau United took advantage and got their third goal thanks to Gideon Monday.

Speaking to reporters in his post-match press conference, Ogunbote revealed what his players were not doing right in the first half which saw them struggle against Shooting Stars.

“No disrespect to them, forget about the scoreline, they are a good side. When you’re playing against a team that has played on the continent you should expect some quality in that team which we actually saw.

“We were a little careless in the first half and not tactically disciplined. For a team that play a unit defence, they have three centre-back so all we need to do is what I told them in the second half. So you can only break the defence before you think of scoring.”

Ogunbote admitted that the chemistry between his players is still not there yet, but assures that it will be sorted out.

He added:”The synergy has not really come. If you look at the game we had about seven or eight new players. But as the game goes the understanding will be better and I can assure you that we have a team but we are still trying to study ourselves so that we will have a perfect synergy.”
