55 Years Later, A Classic Justice League Hero Gains A God-Tier Upgrade

It took half a century for a major Justice League hero to gain an upgrade only they could achieve. The Justice League brings together powerhouses from all over the DC Universe, including the best representatives from wildly varied species and backgrounds. The Justice League's founding team alone features a Kryptonian, an Amazon, an Atlantean, a Martian, a Speedster, a Green Lantern, and a Gotham vigilante. Other iterations also include sorcerers, mythical champions, androids, time travelers, cyborgs, and a wide assortment of science-based heroes. Such a varied line-up allows the Justice League to be prepared for virtually any challenge that comes their way.

And yet, the Justice League isn't the final frontier of power in the DC Universe. The Endless, which includes Dream and Death, personify the fundamental forces of existence that govern every living soul across space and time. Higher-dimensional archangels like Lucifer Morningstar and Michael Demiurgos hold creation-level potential, and ancient energy beings like the Lords of Order and Chaos dictate the flow of magic across universes, while cosmic guardians like the Monitors observe the entire DC multiverse from the borders of reality. DC cosmology wouldn't be complete without the New Gods of Genesis and Apokolips, who reside in the Sphere of the Gods.

Although the New Gods usually take their distance from the Justice League's battles, their most famous hero is also one of the most famous members of the JLA.

55 Years Later, Miracleman Finally Becomes Highfather

A monumental status quo shift shakes the core of the Fourth World as DC Comics unveils DC All In Saga: The New Gods #1. Set for release on January 13, 2027, Ram V, Alex Paknadel, and Joan Urgell's 48-page one-shot special spins directly out of the climax of Ram V and Evan Cagle's The New Gods maxiseries, which culminated in the military occupation of New Genesis by hostile alien forces. Now, Mister Miracle takes up the mantle of Highfather to lead his displaced brethren as his people's mass exodus introduces turbulence for ordinary humans, especially as Fourth World weapons and technology begin to leak into dangerous global black markets.

Mister Miracle's ascension to the New Gods' Highfather is a poetic culmination of five full decades of Jack Kirby-created comic book lore. Historically, Scott Free has spent his entire life fleeing the suffocating dynastic politics of New Genesis and Apokolips, instead choosing the path of an earthly stuntman to sever ties with the celestial machinations of his birthright. Mister Miracle avoided the crown in search of personal sovereignty, but the sudden destruction of his homeworld eliminates the illusion of freedom.

Mister Miracle's Highfather Evolution May Culminate In A Groundbreaking Battle

Mister Miracle May Play A Key Role In Darkseid's Return

A giant Darkseid attacks a city in DC KO

Darkseid's defeat in DC K.O. is nothing but a temporary pause for the Apokoliptian tyrant. His mental broadcast to Earth's heroes during the Omega King tournament guaranteed his eventual return, as every participant was given the knowledge that Superman's victory only delays Darkseid's. Currently, the Justice League Unlimited has launched the most successful age of superheroism across the Earth, with all available heroes protecting every corner of the planet and dozens of villains providing their support. However, no amount of preparation is enough to prevent Darkseid from pushing the world to the brink.

With Darkseid's return appearing all but inevitable, Mister Miracle's newly acquired authority almost guarantees that he will play an essential role in the Apokoliptian's rematch against the DC Universe. As Highfather, Mister Miracle now has firsthand knowledge of Apokoliptian architecture and strategic weaknesses that his fellow Justice League heroes could eventually exploit. Ascension to Highfather grants Scott Free full control over the Alpha Effect, a cosmic energy source that grants him reality manipulation, energy projection, and matter transmutation on a divine scale. It also confers divine omniscience, a telepathic link to every citizen of New Genesis, and command over the Source, the primordial power at the heart of existence.
