Men’s javelin throw at Asian Games 2026 — Yashvir, Rohit win silver and bronze for India; Pathirage gets gold

Diamond League champion Rumesh Pathirage continued his red-hot form in javelin throw as he clinched the gold medal at the 2026 Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya on Monday.

India, competing without its 2020 Olympic gold medallist Neeraj Chopra, found two of its athletes on the podium, with Yashvir Singh securing silver and Rohit Yadav winning bronze.

Yashvir, who had won bronze at the 2026 Commonwealth Games, started with a throw of 83.56m but confirmed his silver medal with his last attempt of 85.72m. It also earned him a spot at the 2027 World Athletics Championships.

Rohit, on the other hand, had an underwhelming first attempt of 77.25m, but got his best in his third attempt, at 84.35m.

Meanwhile, Pathirage, who breached the 90-metre mark twice this year, got in front with his fourth throw of 88.33m, and then improved on it with his last attempt, reaching 88.55m on a rainy evening at the Nagoya City Mizuho Park Athletic Stadium.
