Kerk faces four-way fight in DAP stronghold

DAP’s Kerk Chee Yee faces a four-cornered battle as he goes for a third term as the Ayer Keroh assemblyman.
Kerk, who was first elected in 2018, is being challenged by Melaka Gerakan chief Michael Gan (Perikatan Nasional), Muhaimin Lau Abdullah (Bersama) and Hamnaim Mohamad (Bersatu).
Ayer Keroh is a DAP stronghold that has been under the Pakatan Harapan component’s grip since 2008.
In 2018, Kerk won the seat with a whopping 9,261-vote majority. The Melaka DAP publicity secretary retained Ayer Keroh comfortably in the 2021 polls, although with a slimmer majority of 5,624 votes.
Ayer Keroh is a mixed seat where Chinese voters make up the largest segment of the electorate at 47.6%, followed by Malays (42.4%) and Indians (8.3%).
