Tribe, 22, was born and raised in Jersey, the largest of the Channel Islands, and has played international cricket for them since he was a teenager. He is pushing for England selection but played three ODIs for Jersey in Kenya last month in the CWC Challenge League Group A as they sealed qualification for the CWC Qualifier playoffs.

Tribe left Jersey's tour early to link up with the Lions squad that is due to play three T20s and five one-day matches against West Indies A in St Kitts and Nevis. But he only made it as far as Paris before it became apparent that he would not be allowed into the country because of the government's attempt to minimise the chances of the Ebola virus spreading.

Kenya announced its first Ebola cases in early October, and the St Kitts and Nevis government issued an advisory last month, which included Kenya on a list of "high-risk" countries. "Effective immediately, non-nationals who have visited any of these counties within 21 days prior to their travel will not be permitted entry into the Federation of Saint Kitts and Nevis," the advisory said.

Tribe's situation was first reported by the BBC on Sunday. An ECB spokesperson confirmed to Cricinfo: "Asa Tribe was unable to enter Saint Kitts and Nevis, having recently travelled to Kenya."

They added: "Saint Kitts and Nevis currently have a 21-day non-entry rule in place for non-nationals who have been in Kenya due to the Ebola situation in Kenya and seven other countries in Africa. Asa is back in the UK, and we are in touch with the relevant authorities."

The Lions won the first T20 of their tour convincingly on Sunday, bowling West Indies out for 98 before knocking the runs off in 10.1 overs with eight wickets in hand. Naavya Sharma (4 for 19) and Scott Currie (3 for 11) had the standout bowling figures, while captain Thomas Rew made 50 not out off 24 balls opening the batting.

The tour is Jonathan Trott's first as Lions head coach, following his appointment for their winter programme.
