Jealousy believed to be motive in Kuantan student’s death
Jealousy is believed to have been the motive in the death of a 19-year-old female student who was found unconscious at a rented house in Air Putih, Kuantan, police say.
Kuantan police chief Ashari Abu Samah said the student, from Sultan Haji Ahmad Shah Polytechnic, and her boyfriend had known each other for about a year, Bernama reported.
He also said police had recorded statements from the victim’s three housemates.
It was previously reported that preliminary investigations suggested the incident stemmed from a misunderstanding between the couple.
Police were alerted after receiving an emergency call from the victim’s boyfriend. They found her lying unconscious on a bed with strangulation marks on her neck.
The 19-year-old boyfriend was arrested and remanded for seven days until Oct 12 to assist investigations under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.
