RIP Owen Ndlovu: When former SABC presenter will be laid to rest

Former SABC presenter Owen Ndlovu’s memorial service took place on Wednesday 23 September from 11am to 4pm at Walter Sisulu Hall, Randburg Sporting Complex, near Malibongwe Drive and Hans Schoeman Street in Randburg. He will be laid to rest on Friday 25 September,

WHAT HAPPENED TO OWEN NDLOVU?

Owen Ndlovu was fetching his wife from a church service in Katlehong, when three approached their vehicle. One, who was allegedly armed with a firearm pushed her aside and forced Ndlovu into the back seat of his Ford Raptor bakkie before driving off.

His body was discovered the following morning by residents of Thokoza in Ekurhuleni having sustained gunshot wounds. The hijacked bakkie was later found abandoned in Walkerville. Police have launched a manhunt for the three suspects. A postmortem is expected to formally confirm the cause of death.

He died on 16 September at the age of 54. Investigations into his death are still ongoing. Ndlovu leaves behind his wife, Portia, and their children. Take a look at five things to know about the presenter here.

OWEN NDLOVU TO BE LAID TO REST ON FRIDAY

Family, friends and colleagues gathered on Wednesday 23 September for Ndlovu’s memorial service. The details of the memorial service were announced by Eugene Mthethwa, chairperson of the advocacy group Artists United, an EFF MP and a member of the local music group Trompies.

“It is with great sadness that we have announced the sad passing of Mr. Owen Ndlovu, and therefore the memorial service will be held under the following conditions and details,” said Mthethwa.

“The venue is Walter Sisulu Hall, Randburg Sporting Complex in Randburg. This is near Malibongwe Drive and Hans Schoeman Street. Please join the family and friends as we gather to honour and celebrate the life of Owen Ndlovu. Your presence and support during this time of remembrance will be greatly appreciated,” he continued in a video.
