‘Some get less’: Grant recipient demands answers over SASSA payments

Translate

A SASSA grant recipient is demanding to know why some beneficiaries are not receiving their money while others are getting less than expected.

Maggie Cloete raised the question in the comments section on The South African’s Facebook page, describing the situation as a disgrace.

“So, disgraceful, some get less,” she wrote.

Not everyone paid on the same day

Part of the answer may lie in SASSA’s review process. SASSA said payments for beneficiaries whose grants are under review will be made on 5 November.

That date sits apart from the main schedule, under which the Older Persons Grant is paid on Friday, 30 October 2026, the Disability Grant on Monday, 02 November 2026, and Children’s Grants on Tuesday, 03 November 2026.

SASSA has urged beneficiaries undergoing reviews to respond to official communication and attend appointments when requested.

Amounts differ by grant type

Different payments may also reflect different grant categories. Older persons and disability grants are both set at R2 400, while the war veterans grant comes in slightly higher at R2 420. The foster child grant sits at R1 300, and child support and grant-in-aid recipients each receive R580.

For Cloete, though, even the full amount falls short.

“We can’t do with R 2400 rand,” she wrote.

Food and electricity squeeze

Cloete said rising costs leave little room in the monthly budget.

“We can’t even afford to buy enough food,” she wrote.

SASSA advises beneficiaries to keep their bank details current and active ahead of each payment cycle, as outdated information can delay payments. Beneficiaries who have not been paid are encouraged to check whether their grant is under review before visiting an office.
