Kourtney Kardashian had the words of Yeezus in mind back when she was exploring life as a single woman, with the reality star revealing the advice that Ye (formerly Kanye West) gave her before she settled down with now-husband Travis Barker.
On the latest episode of The Kardashians, which premiered Thursday (Oct. 22) on Hulu, Kardashian encouraged stepson Landon Barker to “just wait until you get married” before getting physical with anyone. When a producer asked if she’d abstained from hookups before she married the Blink-182 drummer, the Lemme founder answered candidly.
“No,” she said. “But I remember Kanye told me, ‘I feel like God is calling me to tell you that you should not hook up with any randoms until you are with your husband.'”
“And I didn’t,” she added.
Ye was Kourtney’s brother-in-law for eight years, marrying her sister Kim in 2014 and becoming a close member of the extended family until their 2021 split and 2022 divorce. That means the rapper was there for when the Poosh creator ended her nine-year relationship with Scott Disick — with whom she shares three kids — in 2015, as well as for when she started dating Barker in early 2021.
Kourtney and Barker are now married and share a young son named Rocky.
“I’d left any thoughts of us ever being anything more,” the rocker recalled on the week prior’s Kardashians episode of how his 15-year friendship with Kourtney turned romantic thanks to a “crazy” text she sent him. “I was like, ‘What?’ I had to look at my phone four times. I thought, ‘There’s no way!’ … I was scared because I thought, ‘I can’t mess this up, I can’t mess this up.'”
Ye’s place in the Kardashian family has been troubled for many years due to the strain in his personal and co-parenting relationship with Kim. In a new biography about the billionaire Skims mogul, a Keeping Up With the Kardashians producer recalled how the hip-hop titan once started “ripping into” Kris Jenner and the rest of the family over their not voting for him in the 2020 presidential election.
“Kanye came to Caitlyn [Jenner]’s house with Kim, and he just started ripping into Kris and the family and questioning them about not voting for him,” Farnaz Farjam said in Jonathan Van Meter’s book Citizen Kim: The Woman Who Created the Future. “He just made it all about himself. That whole 30-minute battle was very telling, but we had to edit it out.”
