Guy Ritchie & Henry Cavill's R-Rated War Thriller Instantly Dominates Netflix

Guy Ritchie and Henry Cavill have teamed up a few times so far, and two of the movies that came out of that are now ruling streaming, with one of them being an instant Netflix hit. Ritchie and Cavill have been at the forefront of several successful projects, both in theaters and on streaming. When it comes to the latter, Cavill has proven himself a major star for Netflix. He led the streamer's The Witcher adaptation for three of the fantasy series' five seasons as Geralt of Rivia, with Cavill also playing Sherlock Holmes in Netflix's hit Enola Holmes movies.

Cavill's streaming domination will continue on Prime Video in the future, as he is shepherding a Warhammer 40,000 universe at the streamer, which will include a live-action series he will star in and that has Mike Flanagan (The Haunting of Hill House) writing. As for Ritchie, he has found enormous streaming success as a writer, director, and executive producer on Netflix's The Gentlemen, which recently returned for season 2, Prime Video's Young Sherlock, and MobLand, whose season 2 debuted on Paramount+ this Friday, September 18, on Paramount+. Now, Ritchie and Cavill's The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare has continued their streaming dominance as an instant hit.

At the time of writing, The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare is the 3rd most-watched movie on Netflix in the United States. This makes the Ritchie and Cavill R-rated action thriller an instant streaming hit, as The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare arrived on Netflix on Wednesday, September 16. The film ranks higher than a few major releases on the coveted Netflix chart. For instance, The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare has quickly left behind the near-perfect animated fantasy movie Puss in Boots: The Last Wish, the Taylor Sheridan and Jon Bernthal neo-Western thriller Those Who Wish Me Dead, Netflix's The Whisper Man, and more.

Right now, the only two movies standing above The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare on Netflix nationwide are Why Did I Get Married Again?, the new Netflix Original movie that brings back the Tyler Perry rom-com franchise, and at #1, the 2026 thriller The Seemingly Perfect Family. The R-rated war thriller comes with a star-studded cast, many of whom, like Cavill and director Ritchie, have proved themselves major attractions on streaming. Those include Young Sherlock's Hero Fiennes Tiffin, Reacher's Alan Ritchson, 3 Body Problem's Eiza González, and more. The film has become the second Cavill and Ritchie collaboration to be dominating streaming right now.

The Pair Were Already Ruling Another Streaming Platform

The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare's instant success at Netflix expands Cavill and Ritchie's streaming dominance, as their new 2026 R-rated spy thriller, In The Grey, currently stands as the 4th most-watched movie on Prime Video worldwide, according to FlixPatrol. The new star-studded movie reunites multiple actors with Ritchie, also including González and Jake Gyllenhaal. In The Grey is also trending as the most-watched movie on Starz in the United States. As such, by becoming a nationwide hit on Netflix, The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare helps cement Cavill and Ritchie as one of streaming's most successful recent duos.
