PENAMPANG, Oct 24 — A 42-year-old murder suspect on the run for more than 17 years has finally been arrested in Sabah over a 2009 homicide in Penampang.

Penampang acting police chief Assistant Superintendent Arisanti Aziz said investigators detained the man at a house in Kolombong, Inanam on Thursday.

“The arrest followed our continuous efforts to track down the suspect and investigate the case,” she said in a statement today.

Police had sought the suspect over the death of a man in Beverly Hills, Penampang on April 11, 2009.

“The case is being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code, which provides for the death penalty or imprisonment of between 30 and 40 years.

“If the death penalty is not imposed, the offender is also liabe to at least 12 strokes of the cane, subject to applicable legal provisions,” she said.

Arisanti added that the arrest demonstrates the police force’s commitment to combating crime, including solving cold cases and bringing long-sought suspects to court.
