Indonesia lauds 12 Western countries for restricting trade with Israel

Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesia, alongside Egypt, Jordan, Pakistan, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Türkiye, and the United Arab Emirates (UAE), has commended the move by Canada and 11 European countries to restrict trade with illegal Israeli settlements.

According to an official statement from the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued here on Thursday, the foreign ministers of Canada, Denmark, Finland, France, Iceland, Ireland, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Spain, Sweden, and the United Kingdom recently issued a Joint Statement on the Two-State Solution.

These nations announced plans to introduce national restrictions and/or support European restrictions on trade in goods originating from Israeli settlements, which are illegal under international law.

They also encouraged the international community to build on these steps and take concrete actions to end activities that support the continuation of these illegal settlements.

Furthermore, Indonesia's foreign minister, alongside counterparts from the other Islamic nations, reiterated calls for Israeli authorities to revoke all measures related to settlement activities and any other policies aimed at altering the geographic and demographic character of the occupied Palestinian territories.

The coalition of ministers reaffirmed that the Gaza Strip is an inseparable part of Palestine. They called for the immediate and full implementation of U.S. President Donald Trump's plan to end the Gaza conflict.

This step is expected to ensure security and stability in the region, address the humanitarian crisis, facilitate reconstruction and recovery efforts, and lay the foundation for long-term peace.

The ministers emphasized that the only path to a just, lasting, and comprehensive peace is through the implementation of a two-state solution, in accordance with international law and relevant United Nations resolutions.

They underscored that this must be realized through the establishment of an independent, sovereign, geographically contiguous, and viable State of Palestine, based on the borders of June 4, 1967, with East Jerusalem as its capital.
