Translate

The Penang Island City Council (MBPP) has issued a stop-work order for the development of a condominium and several roads near where a fatal landslide occurred in Paya Terubong this morning.

Mayor Rajendran Anthony told FMT that the developer had been ordered to carry out immediate mitigation works at the site as well as submit a fresh environmental impact study on the affected area.

The developer was also ordered to present the study’s findings to MBPP as soon as possible.

The landslide had crashed into the back of a house in Taman Seri Rambai, Paya Terubong, around 8.30am, killing a 73-year-old man.

The victim’s wife, 63, and son, 35, managed to escape.

Following the incident, residents of six nearby houses were ordered to evacuate as a precaution against further landslides.
