A health outreach programme organised by the Gold Fields Ghana Foundation and its partners has provided screening and general healthcare services to 735 people in Samahu and Abekoase in the Western Region, with 21 suspected breast cancer cases referred for further assessment.

The fourth-quarter (Q4) Health Engagement and Access Link (HEAL) Programme, held on October 17, 2026, enabled 185 women to undergo breast cancer screening as part of activities marking Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

It was organised under the theme “Every Story is Unique, Every Journey Matters” in partnership with the Rotary Club of Tarkwa, Unilever Ghana and Diagnostic Centre Limited (DCL).

Speaking at the programme, Dr Magdalene D. Bakari, Lead Specialist for Health Services at Gold Fields Ghana Limited, stressed the importance of bringing healthcare closer to communities and encouraging people to seek medical attention early. She urged women to prioritise regular check-ups and seek professional advice whenever they notice unusual changes in their bodies.

Beyond breast cancer screening, residents benefited from general medical consultations, blood pressure and blood sugar tests, eye and dental screenings, ear, nose and throat assessments, lung function tests, X-rays and ultrasound services. Free medication, health counselling and referrals for further care were also provided where necessary.

The Executive Secretary of the Gold Fields Ghana Foundation, Abdel-Razak Yakubu, said the Foundation’s health outreach initiatives form part of efforts to improve access to essential healthcare in its host communities.

The programme also provided National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) registration, renewal and card replacement services to 937 community members, helping them access health insurance services.

With an estimated cost of GH¢606,964, the outreach reflects efforts by the Foundation and its partners to promote preventive healthcare, improve access to screening, and encourage the early detection of diseases.
