Deputy Minister asks students to prepare for era of green jobs

Jakarta (ANTARA) - Deputy Minister of Higher Education, Science, and Technology Stella Christie has called on university students across Indonesia to prepare for the era of green jobs in the country.

In a statement issued in Jakarta on Sunday, Stella said that green jobs require strong cognitive abilities. Therefore, young people need to adapt quickly, supported by formal education and technical skills.

To support this, she urged higher education institutions to instill a research mindset as a core foundation.

"Having a research mindset does not mean you will become a researcher. It means being able to ask the right questions and answer them systematically using data and logic," she added.

The deputy minister stressed the importance of exposing students to various green jobs, citing geothermal energy and natural hydrogen as key sectors that need to be introduced further to Indonesia's younger generation.

Furthermore, she noted that potential collaborations with industry include courses, learning methods, and workshops.

"Our doors at the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, and Technology are wide open for creating courses, teaching methods, and workshops at universities," she said.

Echoing Stella's remarks, Deputy Minister of Manpower Afriansyah Noor noted that the growth of green jobs not only creates new employment opportunities but also transforms the nature of existing jobs.

Some occupations that could become part of green jobs include electrical technicians, production operators, procurement personnel, and occupational safety and health officers.

Earlier, the Ministry of Manpower noted that the green economy could create employment opportunities for around 3.88 million people across Indonesia in 2026, based on the Employment Outlook 2026 projections.
