Nicola backs Adams after match-winning Napoli goal
Venezia coach Davide Nicola has backed Nigerian striker Akor Adams to improve further after the Super Eagles forward scored the winning goal in the club’s 1–0 victory over Napoli on Saturday.
Adams’ 49th-minute strike at Stadio Pier Luigi Penzo gave Venezia their first Serie A points of the season and ended a six-match losing start. It was also Nicola’s first game in charge after replacing Giovanni Stroppa.
Speaking after the match, Nicola said, “I don’t like talking about individuals. Adams puts his soul into it; he has very important qualities, and he helps the team. Akor has crazy margins for improvement.”

Adams responded, “I thank the coach; I don’t set limits for myself, I have a lot to learn to grow. Here in Venice, I can improve; the coach has come to help Venezia and me.”
The striker also praised Nicola’s clear instructions on intensity, defensive organisation and transitions. Adams’ performance, combined with a strong display by goalkeeper Filip Stanković, offered encouragement to Venezia as they seek greater consistency under their new coach.
