Man in custody escapes after picking handcuffs at Samui court


SURAT THANI — 16 September 2026, Police launched a manhunt after a male detainee accused of assault escaped from custody while being taken to Koh Samui Provincial Court in Koh Samui district.
The detainee reportedly picked his handcuffs and fled from an area behind the court that connects to a municipal garbage disposal site in Maret subdistrict.
Police have cordoned off the area and are conducting an urgent search for the escaped detainee.
Bo Phut Police Station also issued a public warning on its Facebook page, asking residents in Koh Samui district to remain alert and report anyone matching the suspect’s description.
Police identified the escaped detainee as a Thai man believed to be about 26 years old. He is approximately 175 centimetres tall, has a slim build, dark reddish-brown skin and long hair. He was last seen wearing long jeans and no shirt.
