Spooks and Rivals favourites star in new-look trailer for epic Treasure Island TV series

Paramount+ has dropped a first-look trailer for its epic new Treasure Island TV series, starring Spooks favourite David Oyelowo and Rivals star Hayley Atwell.

Treasure Island follows young Jim Hawkins and his fiercely determined mother Bess as they come into possession of Captain Flint's legendary treasure map and are swept into a race for unimaginable riches.

Crossing the Atlantic aboard the Hispaniola, Jim enters a world of shifting loyalties, ruthless ambition and deadly secrets, where trust can be as dangerous as betrayal.

At the heart of the expedition is Long John Silver, a charismatic and deeply complex survivor whose ambitions challenge every certainty Jim holds.

Oyelowo will star as Long John Silver while Atwell is Bess, Tom Sweet (Great Expectations) is Jim Hawkins, Jack Huston (Boardwalk Empire, Fargo) is Aaron Graham and Tomer Capone (The Boys, Fauda) is Billy Bones.

The new six-part series will premiere in the UK on Wednesday 12 October on Paramount+, with new episodes to air weekly. It will air on MGM+ in the US.

The one-minute, 17-second-long trailer released today gives a glimpse of the stars in character, including Oyelowo as Long John Silver complete with his wooden leg and a parrot mounted on his shoulder.

The first clips of the trailer sets up Jim and Bess struggling to get by before they stumble upon the "blessed or cursed" map of Captain Flint.

Viewers are then shown clips of the action aboard a ship as the characters race and fight their way to the bounty hidden on Skeleton Island.

The trailer then concludes with the summary: "Fortune isn't found, it's fought for."

Oyelowo rose to fame playing MI5 officer Danny Hunter in the British drama series Spooks from 2002 to 2004, while Atwell is known for her portrayal of Agent Peggy Carter in the MCU and most recently as Helen Gordon in Rivals.

The new series is directed by Slow Horses' Jeremy Lovering, William McGregor (The Buccaneers, Lockwood & Co) and Paul Walker (Shameless, Riviera) with Mark Hedges serving as producer.
