KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 9 — No area nationwide recorded an Air Pollutant Index (API) reading at hazardous levels due to the haze as of 9 am this morning.

However, the Malaysian Air Pollutant Index Management System (APIMS) portal this morning showed that only Serian in Sarawak recorded a very unhealthy API of 214.

Meanwhile, 10 areas in Sarawak recorded unhealthy readings, namely Samarahan and Kuching with 185 each, Sarikei (174), Sri Aman (173), Miri Industrial Training Institute (ILP) (171), Samalaju (169), Mukah (156), Bintulu (155), Miri (150) and Sibu (102).

In Selangor, Johan Setia recorded the highest reading for the state with an API of 164, followed by Shah Alam (161), Banting (156), Petaling Jaya and Klang (153) and Kuala Selangor (151).

Also recording unhealthy status were Tasek Ipoh and Tanjung Malim respectively (158), Seri Manjung (152) and Pegoh Ipoh (144) in Perak, while in the federal capital it involved Batu Muda (170), Cheras (161) in addition to Putrajaya (157).

Other areas at the same level were Nilai (159), Seremban (154) and Port Dickson (108) in Negeri Sembilan; Bukit Rambai (155), Alor Gajah (152) and Bandaraya Melaka (103) in Melaka; Segamat (155), Batu Pahat (153), Kluang (151) and Tangkak (142) in Johor.

In total, 29 areas nationwide were reported to be at a moderate level, while four areas recorded good readings.

An API reading of zero to 50 indicates good air quality, 51 to 100 (moderate), 101 to 200 (unhealthy), 201 to 300 (very unhealthy) and 300 and above as hazardous. — Bernama
