KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 29 — Selangor-based Worldwide Holdings Bhd (WHB) has been named Best Waste-to-Energy (WTE) Developer at the BusinessToday Industry Choice Awards 2026, recognising its efforts to develop waste management solutions that convert municipal waste into electricity.

Beyond developing infrastructure, the company said its WTE projects were also creating opportunities for Malaysians to acquire technical skills and experience in the growing sector.

“We are proud that our WTE journey is not only delivering critical infrastructure, but also building local capabilities and nurturing Malaysian talent in this sector. This is important as we develop the expertise needed to grow WTE further in Malaysia,” WHB group chief executive officer Ahmad Zaki Ahmad Zainuddin said in a statement today.

The company's main WTE development is located in Jeram, Selangor, where its first plant began commercial operations in May this year.

The facility processes municipal solid waste to generate energy, providing an alternative to conventional landfill disposal.

WHB said the project formed part of its efforts to reduce dependence on landfills while recovering value from waste and supporting more sustainable waste management practices.

“This award reflects our journey from managing waste to creating value from it. As Malaysia’s largest Waste-to-Energy developer, it inspires us to go further and establish Worldwide Holdings as a leading name in WTE across the country and beyond,” Ahmad Zaki said.

WHB, a wholly owned subsidiary of Selangor state development corporation PKNS, has been involved in environmental services since 1995.

Its waste management operations include sanitary landfills, leachate treatment, landfill gas management and waste-to-energy development.

The company said it planned to build on its existing WTE operations and technical capabilities to support more resource-efficient waste management in Malaysia.
