Indonesia secures 4.8 million tons of rice stock through year-end

Cilacap, C. Java (ANTARA) - Indonesia’s national rice reserve currently stands at approximately 4.8 million tons, a volume state logistics agency Perum Bulog says is sufficient to meet domestic consumption needs through the end of the year.

Speaking in Cilacap on Saturday, Bulog President Director Ahmad Rizal Ramdhani confirmed that the substantial stock is being held across a network of state-owned facilities and rented commercial space.

"Thank God, the national rice stock today is still large, around 4.8 million tons," Rizal said, adding that Bulog’s own facilities have reached maximum capacity, prompting the agency to lease private commercial warehouses to store the government reserves.

The current inventory will be utilized to support several major government programs through the fourth quarter of 2026.

These include additional food assistance targeting roughly 33.2 million beneficiaries from October to December 2026, alongside the distribution of an extra 1 million tons of market-stabilizing rice under the Food Supply and Price Stabilization (SPHP) program.

Despite the heavy planned releases, Bulog projects year-end reserves will remain robust.

"With the distribution of food aid to 33.2 million beneficiaries, plus an additional SPHP allocation of 1 million tons, Bulog's stock is expected to remain at around 3.2 million tons by the end of the year," Rizal stated, noting the strong inventory provides critical leverage for market stabilization.

Regional supply figures reflect the strong national buffer.

At the local level, Head of Bulog's Banyumas Branch Office Prawoko Setyo Aji confirmed that regional warehouses spanning Cilacap, Banyumas, Purbalingga and Banjarnegara regencies currently hold 54,686 tons of rice - ensuring sufficient local coverage through year-end.
